Red Hat Services Management and Automation

Red Hat Services Management and Automation (RH358) is designed for IT professionals with some experience managing Linux systems, who want to learn more about how to manage and deploy network services that are included with Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

Course Overview

This Red Hat course (RH358) is perfect for IT folks who already know their way around Linux and want to level up their skills in managing and deploying essential network services on Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

You’ll start by getting hands-on with manually setting up, tweaking, and running these services. Think of it as learning the fundamentals. Then, you’ll discover the power of Ansible to automate these tasks, making your work much more efficient and consistent across your systems.

The course uses the latest versions of Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform (2.4) and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (9.4), so you’ll be learning with the most up-to-date tools.

5 – 10 Course Topic

In this course, you’ll get practical experience setting up and managing a bunch of essential network services that come built-in with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9. Think of it as mastering the core tools your network relies on:

  1. DNS with Unbound and BIND9
  2. IPv4 and IPv6 network autoconfiguration withDHCP and DHCPv6 servers
  3. Client email transmission
  4. Printing service with IPP Everywhere and CUPS
  5. NFS and SMB protocol file sharing
  6. SQL database service with MariaDB
  7. Web services using Apache HTTPD and Nginx.

Configuring advanced networking for server use cases, including network bonding

Using Ansible to automate the manual deployment and configuration tasks covered in this course

Target Audience:

This Red Hat course (RH358) is for Linux system administrators, platform engineers, developers, and other IT professionals with some Ansible experience. It focuses on learning how to manage and automate the deployment, configuration, and operation of key network services included with Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

Prerequisites for this course:

  1. RHCSA-level skills with Linux system administration
  2. Working knowledge of Ansible (RH294 or equivalent skills and experience)
Course Outline
  1. Managing Network Services
Review the essential tools and skills required to manage network services effectively.
  2. Configuring Link Aggregation
Learn how to configure and troubleshoot advanced network interface functions. This includes setting up and maintaining network bonds.

  3. Managing DNS and DNS Servers
Understand how the Domain Name System (DNS) operates. In addition, practice troubleshooting DNS issues. Finally, configure name servers as either caching-only or authoritative for a DNS zone.

  4. Managing DHCP and IP Address Assignment
Explore services that automatically assign IPv4 and IPv6 addresses. For example, configure DHCP, DHCPv6, and SLAAC to support automated address management.

  5. Managing Printers and Printing Files
Set up systems to print to network printers using the IPP Everywhere protocol. Furthermore, manage existing print queues on Linux systems.

  6. Configuring Email Transmission
Examine how mail servers work. Then configure a server with system tools and Postfix to send email messages through an outbound relay.

  7. Configuring MariaDB SQL Databases
Review the basic operation of SQL-based relational databases. Next, run SQL queries for troubleshooting. Finally, set up a simple MariaDB database service.

  8. Configuring Web Servers
Deliver web content with Apache HTTP Server or Nginx. In addition, configure virtual hosts and apply TLS-based encryption for secure access.

  9. Providing File-based Network Storage
Enable file-based network-attached storage for clients. For this, use either the NFS or SMB protocol.

  10. Accessing Block-based Network Storage
Configure iSCSI initiators on your servers. As a result, they will access block-based storage devices supplied by network storage arrays or Ceph clusters.

Impact on your Organization

This course empowers your IT staff with crucial skills in managing and automating essential services underpinning business-critical applications. This leads to faster deployment times, enhanced reliability, and consistent architectural adherence, ultimately freeing up resources to focus on business improvement and innovation instead of routine operations.

Impact on the Individual

This course provides essential system administration skills for setting up and managing vital network services commonly used by servers and applications in enterprise data centers. You will develop the ability to manually configure these services and, crucially, learn to create Ansible Playbooks to automate these manual configurations for efficient and scalable deployment.
